This book for me was hard to read. I don’t say that because the writing is bad or that even the story isn’t a good one, because Nikki Sloane can write characters amazingly. The hard-to-read part came in with Macalister; he was vile, demeaning, and controlling to the tiniest detail. I hated him in both books. That being said his son Royce wasn’t much better. He and his father fought over Marist like she was a toy and they were little boys. UGH!
So this book like the last was all about power, influence, status, and dominating control. This book had more twists and turns than my favorite reality shows. I couldn’t wait to finish this book. I wanted Marist to stand up for herself and yet when she did it only served to make things worse for her. She could have become passive and boy men might have stopped their desperate need to have and control her. That would have made for a boring book too. I didn’t see that ending coming at all but I kinda liked it. It hasn’t made me want to pick up the third book yet. There's only so much of the Hale family I can take at once.
This book earned four stars! And my only complaint would be all the Greek mythology analogies throughout this whole book. It pulled me out of the story some.
